Tips for Branding Your Business

You’ve decided you need to establish your brand – you want the flavor of your particular business to be clearly identifiable from your ads, online marketing, and on your website. The following suggestions will help you establish your business concept visually.

Make good use of color. This is perhaps the most significant choice you will make. You might not have considered color to be all that important, but it is. Marketing specialists attribute about 50% of people’s responses to your marketing materials to your use of color.

Different colors trigger different emotional responses. Restaurants make liberal use of reds, oranges, and yellows because those colors make us hungry. You can put forth an earth-friendly personna by using greens and a serene image by using blues and purples. What emotional reaction do you want to be associated with your business?

Some industries have already dominated particular colors. For example, everyone knows pink is symbolic of breast cancer awareness. Blues are dominated by the banking industry. Everyone knows the golden arches belong to McDonalds. Make sure you choose colors that will represent your business without linking you to an established business that is not desirable or compatible.

Create a unique image or logo. Do you want a modern, sleek look, or would you rather promote a vintage, funky, one-of-a-kind image? Spend some time thinking about the brand of your business, then look through sample fonts and logos and look images that match.

Make sure the logo or mascot you choose will portray your company tone. Do you want something whimsical, like the Trix cereal rabbit? Or are you trying to portray security and trust?

You can design your own logo online or hire a professional. Inexpensive artists are easily found at art institutes or colleges. Make sure the logo truly fits your concept.
